"I've heard of her, she's an expert in international politics, mediates top level negotiations for the UN. I actually referenced some of her work when I drafted the first treaty with the Tok'ra."
Daniel Jackson

Dr. Elizabeth Weir, Ph.D is a human diplomat and first commander Earth's expedition to locate and study the Ancient city of Atlantis in the Pegasus Galaxy. She speaks over five languages, including Russian and Latin (the later of which assisted in her learning of Ancient). Weir brokered a dozen of the most sensitive international treaties in modern times, a résumé that would lend itself very well to critical negotiations once the expedition was cut off from home. Though her inclination was always to seek a diplomatic solution to conflict, she ultimately realized that this is not always possible when facing ruthless enemies such as the Wraith and the Asurans—enemies who threaten human existence itself. But she has had more success with others, including the Genii.

After three years as commander of Atlantis under extraordinary circumstances, Dr. Weir was critically injured as the city fled an orbiting Asuran satellite weapon. Her brain swelling and her body near death, the team's only choice was to reactivate nanites that had infected her a year earlier. Rodney McKay reprogrammed them to heal her body, but rather than regenerating organic cells, the nanites integrated into her system, leaving her part-machine. This allowed Elizabeth to access the Replicators' collective consciousness and lead John Sheppard's team on a daring mission to save all their. Elizabeth nonetheless found herself stranded and forced to remain behind while the others fled, though Niam's faction freed her of reliance on nanites and chose to follow her when their civilization was destroyed.

Elizabeth's current whereabouts and objectives are unknown.
